Sinus Augmentation (sinus lift)
SPOKANE VALLEY, WA

In the event that a patient needs an implant in his or her upper jaw in the area of the posterior teeth, a maxillary sinus lift is sometimes required. The maxillary sinuses are normally occurring air spaces approximately under a patient's cheek bones.

When a patient is missing a tooth in the posterior upper jaw for an extended period of time, the bottom of the maxillary sinus, or floor of the sinus, will typically migrate downwards resulting in a thinned portion of bone where the tooth used to be.

If the height of bone in this location is too short to allow for a sinus implant to be placed, the floor of the sinus is surgically pushed up and bone graft material is placed to maintain the height of the lifted sinus and to induce bone to grow into the lifted portion to maintain the lifted sinus long term.
